Wild Bill Elliott & Robert Blake - Good Movie For Kids
With 11 year old Robert Blake given a prominent role as Little Beaver, Elliott's young Native American companion, this is the kind of childhood fantasy young boys dream about. How the Code condoned allowing boys to be involved in shootouts with murderers is beyond me - but here it is. Elliott fulfills his part as a good and righteous law abiding man, fit to bring up a boy in the right way. The plot is standard: LeRoy Mason and Glenn Strange find out there are huge oil deposits on local ranches and team up to scare residents into selling their ranches - cattle and horse rustling, arson, and murder are their methods. Hired killer Duncan Reynaldo, the San Antonio Kid, turns out to be a decent guy. Lovely Linda Stirling turns out to be the love interest at first sight for Reynaldo, According to IMDb, she appeared in 40 movies/TV shows between 1943-59, had a song and dance background and was athletic enough to convince the great stuntman Yakima Canutt that she could perform the stunts and athletics required in The Tiger Woman serial. The action is more or less non-stop. IMDb says 59:00, but we get 53:21. A very good 3 star B western.

Bill Elliott Good As "Red Ryder"
"Wild" Bill Elliott has the role of Red Ryder in this fine western, "The San Antonio Kid." Robert (Bobby) Blake plays "Little Beaver." Robert Blake's role is larger in this movie than the later one(s) with Allan Lane. Duncan Renaldo, playing a few years later the role of Cisco, in "The Cisco Kid," has a good role in this film as "The San Antonio Kid." Earle Hodgins plays the comic sidekick of both Red and Little Beaver. A good plot, action, a little comedy, and it all adds up to good viewing for the fans of western films.
